Fencing

From traditional wooden panels to custom trellis, a new fence, expertly installed to last, is an important addition to every garden. Fencing provides privacy, shelter and security as well as a backdrop to the plants. It can be painted or stained to go with the overall theme of the garden giving a unique feel to the space.

We can recommend the best fencing option for your garden – what is the best height, style, material and colour.

For solid wooden fencing there are two main options: fence panels and closeboard fencing.

Fence Panels

  • Wooden fence panels come in many different designs including:
    • Feather-edge
    • Tongue and groove
    • Woven
    • Horizontal slatted
    • Hit and miss
  • The panels come in various heights and widths.
  • Constructed from pressure-treated timber to withstand the weather
  • Fitted between wooden or concrete posts
  • Fitted with or without a wooden or concrete gravel board (a horizontal board installed across the bottom of the panel to protect it from the damp.
  • Particularly suitable for level ground

Traditional Closeboard Fencing

  • Built in situ, closeboard fencing gives a traditional look
  • Particularly suitable for level or sloping ground
  • Lengths of closeboard timber are fixed to rails which are supported by posts
  • Constructed from pressure-treated timber to withstand the weather
  • Fitted with or without a wooden or concrete gravel board (a horizontal board installed across the bottom of the panel to protect it from the damp
  • Optional capping can be installed across the top of the fence as protection

Specialist fences

For clients looking for a contemporary fence design we recommend bespoke cedar fencing with the timbers laid horizontally. This is particularly effective for smaller gardens as the design makes the area appear bigger.

  • Criss-cross fence panels
  • Railings

Trellis

For decorative divisions within gardens and as an additional feature to a solid wooden traditional or panel fence, trellis is a fantastic option. Trellis panels comes in a multitude of heights and widths depending on the project. Styles include straightforward square designs or diamonds, but can be made to your specific design. Trellis arches are particularly effective over pathways or as a division between different parts of the garden.

The main advantage of trellis is that is provides support for climbing plants as well as allowing light and air through.

Suitable climbers for growing through trellis include:

  • Roses
  • Clematis
  • Climbing hydrangea
  • Honeysuckle
  • Jasmine
  • Ornamental grape vine
  • Chocolate vine
  • Hops

Garden Walls

A brick wall is an investment which adds value to a property. We can match the brick to those used on your house or render blockwork which is then painted to complement the style of your property.

Low walls are often used in front gardens to act as a boundary to protect children from the road. They are also used as the base for railings which are then hung on brick piers. The options are extensive and we are happy to design boundaries to fit your requirements.
